I'll acknowledge Maura's point (over IM) that it's better he do this kind of second-rate Unrest than something grandly glum. But watching "Gamma Ray," now complete with unmemorable, psychedelic video, I can't help but feel that his collaboration with Danger Mouse is the latest sign of the stagnancy and self-marginalization he's been suffering from ever since his 2002 Gordon Lightfoot album did better than his 1999 pop album. So when we heard that he had tapped Danger Mouse to produce his eighth studio album Modern Guilt , we were really curious to see what the duo would come up with. Bloc Party have certainly proven that whenever they decide to drop a random single, the world listens (see:Flux, Mercury). Their latest hype-endeavor and second nudge at a new album, “Mercury” has successfully made its way into the front page of most of the music blogs out there (the ones I read anyway) — and don’t think it’s gonna stop, I have a feeling the band will announce a new album pretty soon.
