I ain't scared of you motherfuckers!
VINYL IS HEAVY — by Ryland Walker Knight [October 5, 1957 - August 9, 2008] I knew Bernie Mac had the odd disease sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in tissue, most often in the lungs, since 1983. But I did not know he was hospitalized last week. His sarcoidosis brought on pneumonia and, although he was apparently responding well to treatment, Mac passed away this morning. I can't claim to be his most devoted fan but I always dug his catch phrase and his candor and respected the hell out of him for a marriage that lasted his whole adult life, from age 20 to today. Plus, you ...

Though a working comic for more than 30 years, his first screen appearance was as a doorman in “Mo’ Money” in 1992. Everyone Interesting Died This Weekend
RadarOnline.com — Bernie Mac, raunchy standup turned less-raunchy sitcom star, took us by surprise and up and died this weekend right after last week, when his publicist said that he was in good health and responding well to treatment for pneumonia. This marks the last time we will ever believe a publicist, even though we didn't really before. Isaac Hayes, Scientologist and South Park star, soul legend, and composer of one of the greatest opening themes ever, was found by family at home in Memphis "lying unconscious next to a running treadmill in his basement around 1 p.m." And now we will never exercise again. Lester Young's little ...

Isaac Hayes - A Legend Who Will Be Missed
Music2Nite — Isaac Hayes was an incredibly talented soul and funk singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, arranger, composer, and actor. In Memorium
Reel Whore — By now, you have heard the disheartening news that we lost two great men last weekend. Bernie Mac passed away Saturday followed by Isaac Hayes Sunday. There's been plenty of blog posts, articles and news specials over the week about their life, but my mind has been mulling the loss of these two creative men all week. Today, I present an especially memorable moment that I loved from each of them. ...

It Still Doesn't Get Worse Than Insulting A Guy's Mom [Sweetest Taboo]
Jezebel — [image] [image] This week, perhaps as a tribute to the late, great Bernie Mac, the "Explainer" on Slate takes on the universal taboo of "maternal incest " in insults - think "motherfucker." Why is this still the worst of the worst? As the article details , the invocation of maternal incest is ancient and wide-ranging. While it's not quite a universal insult, variations on the command to commit incest with one's mother appear in every region of the globe. Anthropologists note that, across cultures, the most severe insults tend to involve a few basic themes: your opponent's family, your opponent's ...

Comedian Bernie Mac was just 50 when he died early Saturday morning from complications of pneumonia.
