Spade, Farley DirectTV ad -- poor taste?
The Live Feed | THR —
Yeah, I think so. But I'm conservative about this stuff. Whenever an ad company digitally grave-robs dead celebrities, it backfires with me. It's not out of some sort of deep respect for the legacy of the actor. It's because I'm too distracted by what they've done and the result just seems a bit ... creepy and sad. This one, with David Spade talking to his dead former "SNL" castmate Chris Farley for DirecTV, is dividing some viewers ...
Chris Farley And David Spade Direct TV Ad
Hometown Hollywood —
Chris Farley And David Spade Direct TV Ad Posted on 27. Oct, 2009 by CSS in Commercials , R.I.P. , TV Direct TV brought back the late Chris Farley in their new ad campaign and has viewers in a twist citing that it is tasteless and insensitive. But this won’t be the first time the company has used dead celebrities to hype their products. Last year, the company was under attack after featuring Heather O’ Rourke in ‘The Poltergeist’ — she died in 1988 at the age of 12. I’m not bothered by the ad- I think that it was done with the right person, David Spade. Spade was clearly closer to Farley than any of us and if he thought it ...
Chris Farley Ad: Too Soon After Death?
Right TV —
The Chris Farley ad for DirecTV is causing some to question: Is it too soon? The ad features Chris Farley and David Spade in a re-shot scene from Tommy Boy.
Even those who don’t know much about Farley would probably recognize the line “Fat guy in a little coat.” It’s hysterical—still to this day. But should a company ...
David Spade Reacts To Chris Farley DirecTV Ad Criticism
Pop Crunch —
In a statement to Asylum on Tuesday, comedian David Spade reacted to the negative backlash that has accompanied his new DirecTV ad featuring deceased actor Chris Farley. “When Direct TV came to me and the Farley family with this idea about Tommy Boy, we talked and thought it would be a cool way to remind people just how funny Chris was,” David says in response to criticism claiming he’s selling out his late friend’s memory. “It is a clever homage to my friend and a movie that we loved doing.”
DirecTV also fails to see what all the fuss is about: ...
Controversial David Spade Chris Farley Commercial Ad (VIDEO)
Bitten and Bound —
David Spade recently filmed a commercial for satellite company DirecTV. The 30-second spot features Spade promoting the brand while a 1995 film clip of deceased actor Chris Farley in his famous Fat Boy in a Little Coat film plays in the background.
Spade says, “Great, I’m here with tons of fun, but I could be at home with DirecTV. It never gets old.”
Farley died of heart failure due to a drug overdoes in 1997. Some have labeled the ad “bad advertising” and a “monstrous lack of judgment.” Others are calling it “unfunny and not very ...
Exploiting The Dead: David Spade Stars In A Commercial With….Chris Farley
Celebrity gossip juicy celebrity rumors Hollywood gossip blog from Perez Hilton —
It's a gimmick that Direct TV has done with such movies & stars as Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future and Naomi Watts in King Kong - actors advertising Direct TV services while reenacting scenes from beloved movies.
Recently, the newest commercial premiered, with David Spade reprising his role in Tommy Boy in the scene where now deceased close friend and costar Chris Farley performs his famous "Fat Guy in a Little Coat" bit.
Some critics are calling the spot ...
David Spade defends DirecTV commercial with departed co-star Chris Farley
Cele|bitchy —
DirecTV has a series of commercials dating back to 2006 that include clips from films integrated with the actors shilling their satellite TV service. The commercials are said to “break the fourth wall” in that actors turn and speak directly to the viewer during a scene. (I’m not trying to be a smarty pants and found that term on Wikipedia’s entry for DirecTV.)
Here are videos of some of the ads:
Back To the Future featuring Christopher Lloyd
Aliens with Sigourney Weaver
Star Trek with William Shatner ...
DIRECTV HIRES MORE DEAD CELEBRITIES
FilmDrunk: Movie news you can make fun of —
Jared from Landline TV just sent me this video and I’m posting it, because can you imagine an easier way to do this job? The premise: Ignoring widespread outcry over the alleged tastelessness of their Chris Farley ad (after the jump), DirecTV has gone ahead and hired more dead celebrities, including Heath Ledger, John F. Kennedy, and Jesus. Wait a second, I found a flaw in this parody. To quote my favorite catchphrase that never really took off, “Jesus is not dead, are you gay?” ...
Chris Farley’s family OK’d DirecTV ad
Premium Hollywood - Entertainment blog, Hollywood blog, movie blog, TV blog —
As a huge (no pun intended) fan of Chris Farley in general and “Tommy Boy” in particular — there weren’t many more popular or quotable movies on campus during my college days — I wasn’t sure what to think about the new DirecTV ad featuring the late comedian’s legendary “Fat Guy in a Little Coat” scene from the 1995 movie (watch it below). DirecTV has been running similar commercials for a while now (”Aliens,” “Back to the Future,” “King Kong”), recreating iconic movie moments to help illustrate why DirecTV is (allegedly) so much better than cable, but ...
