There isn’t much to say about this new Cloverfield spot, except to point out that New Year’s Rockin’ Eve isn’t the best place to premiere a trailer, in my opinion. I guess part of the target demo is sci-fi geeks without friends, a date or a party to attend, but then those geeks are probably doing something better than watching Ryan Seacrest ring in 2008 in Times Square. ABC’s host for their New Years Eve festivities broadcast, Ryan Seacrest, introduces this “new” compilation of footage from Cloverfield that aired the other night.
I put “new” in quotes since there’s not much that’s actually new in it. It’s just a new arrangement of footage we’ve previously seen in other trailers and TV spots. But it, along with the HD ad that Tom said aired during Sunday Night Football, likely introduced the movie to a whole new mainstream audience, and it, like previous TV spots, definitely reflects that.
