Well, this is sorta unexpected. A full 10 months after Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon hit stores, Devendara Banhart releases the first proper video from the album, and it looks like it actually cost a few bucks and also stars his girlfriend, Natalie Portman. Like last year's clip for M.I.A.'s "Jimmy", the saturated aesthetic of Bollywood serves as the inspiration.

I’m pretty sure the single greatest advantage to being a celebrity is getting to date other celebrities. Let’s face it, they’re hot, they’re rich, and the odds are pretty good you won’t have to be with them more than a year or two. Talk about variety. Plus you can use them in your projects (advantageous if they’re hotter than you) or try to talk them into using you in their projects (advantageous if you’re hotter than them).

Here is the one and only Natalie Portman, dressed like a Bollywood star acting in a music video for her boyfriend Devendra Banhart.
The song name is ‘Carmensita’ and that sounds very Spanish to me so I don’t see why they need to dress Natalie Portman like that and why they chose a Bollywood scenario for this video.

One of my favorite albums from last year, and probably much higher now than when I ranked it previous, was Devendra Banhart's Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. Banhart finally released a real, high-production-style video for one of the album's songs, Carmensita, this week. It stars his special lady, Natalie Portman.
