One of the reasons I decided to review Sundance trailers throughout the festival was to hopefully draw attention to some deserving films that I’d want to see if I was in Park City this week. Finally, after hearing about the movie for a while now, got around to watching the trailer for Downloading Nancy and it’s just downright disturbing. Maria Bello plays a woman who’s fed up with her marriage and her life but can’t quite make the call to kill herself. Instead she seeks out someone online who will kill her, but do so unexpectedly.
She finds a character played by Jason Patric and she begins a weird, pseudo-affair with him. That affair includes him seemingly causing her as much emotional and physical pain, all seemingly delivered with direct or implied sexual overtones. ...
