Once Actress Markéta Irglová's Wonderful Oscar Acceptance Speech
Published 2/25/2008 by Alex Billington at FirstShowing.net
During the Oscars I was truly moved by seeing host Jon Stewert bring Markéta Irglová back out after she had been ushered off before giving her acceptance speech. Markéta and Glen Hansard won the Oscar for Original Song for "Falling Slowly" from Once, the one and only category that the film was nominated in, and ...

They're throwin' a few back in Dublin, right now. Sure takes the sting off of losing my office pool by one category. I don't think I've seen a sweeter Oscar moment than this. Kudos to Jon Stewart for recognizing the moment and giving Marketa a chance to talk. Song: "Falling Slowly" - Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova Good thing Jonny Greenwood's score was disqualified for There Will Be Blood, otherwise my head would've exploded. Marketa Irglova’s Oscar Speech
Published 2/25/2008 by slashfilm.com at /Film
One of the true Oscar moments this year happened when host Jon Stewert ushered Best Song co-winner Marketa Irglova back onto the stage after she had been cut off by the music before the commercial break. And thank god she got her chance. Irglova’s speech was moving and inspirational. If you missed it, watch the speach below. Glen Hansard: “Thanks! This is amazing. What are we doing here? This is mad. We made this film two years ago. We shot on two Handycams. It took us three weeks to make. We made it for a hundred grand. We never thought we would come ...

Sound Off: What Was Oscar’s Most Memorable Moment?
Published 2/25/2008 by Neil Miller at Film School Rejects
IMDB is running a pretty cool poll this morning and we thought it would be a great topic for discussion. Last night’s Oscar ceremony was certainly one for the books; Jon Stewart was nothing short of awesome in his second go-round as host, the surprises were welcomed ones (i.e. the stunning Marion Cotillard winning Best Actress) and there were ...

And now for the most deserving winners, and the best moment of the night, bar none:

I love them! The crowd loves them! Look how happy the audience is! Look how cute and appreciative Laura Linney is! This is like the happiest oscar moment ever. I just had to get it up here to share, before it gets taken down.

Once Wins
For the most part, the Oscars and good music have gone together like toothpaste and orange juice, although things have been getting better in recent years. Still, if the past few Academy Awards ceremonies have borne some promising fruit ("It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp"), we didn’t think Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova had much chance going up against THREE songs from Enchanted and one ...

Oscars in Rewind: Falling Slowly Provides Best Oscar Moment
A lot of people will be talking about Marion Cotillard today, whose teary-eyed acceptance speech was just beyond cute. But I feel the night's greatest moment came in two parts -- first when Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova performed Falling Slowly (from the movie Once ) on stage, and then when both accepted the Oscar for best song. In a very cool moment, Irglova was cut off at the mic ...
The Oscars' Best Song Winner: After These Messages, We'll Make You Say "Awwwww" [Last Night's Party]
Even if "Falling Slowly," Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova's Oscar-winning song from Once , is a little too tepid to be your cup of tea, you have to admit that Jon Stewart bringing Irglova out to give her acceptance speech after the commercial break was a pretty sweet moment, and not even in the "insufferably twee" kind of way that would have probably resulted from a victory by one of the ...
"Once" upon a magical Oscar moment
For someone who watches as many movies as I do, I have a rather perilous confession to make: I often zone out in the middle of the Oscars. I can't be the only person who usually watches the first hour or so, then turns it off for the middle third and then comes back for the big guns. Last night, however, it managed to hook me from start to finish. I'm sure there's gonna be some carping from ...

Glen Hansard (he of the the Irish band The Frames) and Czech musician Marketa Irglova are intelligent, down to earth and charming? You don't say?
