One John McCain’s oft-cited attributes is his humor. He says it fortified him as a POW in Vietnam, and who are we to argue with that? It’s endeared him to a press corps that can’t seem to get enough of his straight talk, especially when it’s deep-fried in corniness. The ability to laugh has also blunted the edges of some of McCain’s more provocative moments on the stump: The “Bomb Iran” ditty he sang to the tune of the Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann” was disturbing, sure. Of course it was funny, but how far in the tank is SNL for Obama? SNL and the lack of pretense of an actor poking fun at Obama show America one of the very reasons why people cannot vote for Obama. Just as in the case with John Kerry, the candidate is stiff, rigid and not real. If one cannot laugh at themselves, who can they laugh at? What it does show is the continued media bias.
