New Lily Allen Video - "The Fear"
Stereogum —
On Monday we heard "The Fear, from Lily Allen's forthcoming It's Not Me, It's You. As mentioned, it was an updated, retouched version of an April demo, a song that pokes fun at losing touch with reality, rich people. For the video Lily's gone back to being a brunette and from her powder blue and pink trailer (teddy bears on the line) to a mansion complete with Madonna's servants, a room full of cupcake sweets, and dancing presents and balloons (aka ballet dudes in tights). Kind of like Cribs at Rip Taylor's place. ...

The song is fantastic. The video is adorable and looks like it cost a bagillion dollars to make (how much do you think it costs to rent Versailles Palace?).
It's makes me think of this song called "The Fear" by Pulp:
I actually find myself singing the Pulp version far too often:
This is the sound of someone losing the plot -
making out that they're okay when they're not.

The promotional train behind Lily Allen's It's Not Me, It's You is certainly starting to rev up: On monday, her new single, " The Fear " premiered, and today, we get an official video for the song. The video plays less on the getting famous and rich at all cost message of the song and more on the sweet, whimsical nature of the song, as Lily wanders around a Alice in Wonderland -esque house after leaving her small trailer at the beginning of the video. There's certianly some rise to fame, in the clip, but it's a lot goofier than just that. It's Not Me, It's You is due out on February 9/10 via Parlophone. [ Stereogum ]

Monday News Mash-Up
The KEXP Blog —
Recently on KEXP, you’ve probably heard Lily Allen’s latest single, “The Fear,” in which the singer pokes fun at brainless pop stars. It’s hard to imagine that Allen, no stranger to publicly scrutinized foibles herself, isn’t throwing in a bit of self-critique in the song as well. But is her recent and mostly straightforward cover of Brittney Spears’ “Womanizer,” which Mark Ronson debuted on his radio show, also part of her commentary? Considering Allen’s own album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, comes ...
Lily Allen “It’s Not Me, It’s You” Review
Culture Bully —
Lily Allen is a good example of an artist who succeeds through non-traditional strengths. Rather than relying on a huge, American Idol-style voice, celebrity producers (even Mark Ronson is absent from her new album) or the mimicry of a more popular act, Allen uses her uniquely soft, barely-there voice and strong personality to write pop songs that are catchy, memorable and occasionally profound.
Like many sophomore albums, It’s Not Me, It’s You lacks the monster singles (”Smile” and “LDN”) that defined its predecessor, but is a bit more solid overall. In particular, the album starts off very ...
