They premiered it on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio show today around 2:30pm EST. -------------------------------------------------------- Official Site | MySpace | More MP3s | eMusic | Subscribe To RSS Feed
Bloc Party Continue Their Countdown To The Apocalypse [Intentional Leak Of The Day]

ARTIST: Bloc Party
TITLE: "Mercury"
WEB DEBUT: July 7, 2008
ONE-LISTEN VERDICT: If the phrase "Bloc Party tries to refashion 'Toxic' in its own image, only with tauter drums and some skronky horns lurking in the background at the end" interests you in any way, you might do well to listen to "Mercury," which pretty much reappropriates that formula. Of course, "in its own image" means that the vocals are more Kele Okereke-bark than Britney-coo, and the lyrics are more about the world's problems than about bad love, but hey, it still sounds pretty good to me.

New Bloc Party Video - "Mercury"

New Bloc Party Video - "Mercury" thumbnail icon: New Bloc Party Video - "Mercury" This weekend a couple of British music sites posted about a RATM82407.com -styled countdown at Bloc Party's homepage. Turns out the countdown was for the unveiling of Bloc Party's new single "Mercury," premiered an hour ago on the BBC's Zane Lowe show. Minutes later and before you could even say "radio rip," YouTube lit up with an official Ace Norton-directed video for the tune. Very " Flux "-y of them. The song's something a little different for the band for its minimal guitars, although the Brits' core constituents (i.e. Kele and Matt ...
New Music: Bloc Party: "Mercury" [Video/Stream]
Published 7/7/2008 by Dave Maher at Pitchfork Media - Today
Bloc Party debuted their new single, "Mercury", on BBC's Radio One today, and both the choppy song and its video are online now. The song "may or may not" appear on the band's third album, according to Billboard.com.
The video turns from a fun Planet of the Apes-style Frankenstein experiment into some sort of comment on U.S. government about halfway through. Seriously, dudes? If we wanted to see a fantastical vision of the future, we'd go see WALL-E (and we will).

So Bloc Party's countdown clock didn't lead to indie Armageddon but to, er, a new song aired on Zane Lowe called Mercury. The accompanying video, however, is suitably weird. Planet of the Apes is the obvious reference point here, with the whole thing alluding to the fact that military organisations do naughty things with Bunsen burners. But is it fair to say that the Party have also 'borrowed' from the Mighty Boosh's Mutants video too? We'll let you decide...

Bloc Party are one of those bands who constantly defy expectations. Starting life as a jittering little indie band in the Franz Ferdinand mould, they blossomed into something altogether more captivating with the gothic chords and tribal rhythms of their second album Weekend In The City. ...

Bloc Party - Mercury
Bloc Party gave a world exclusive first play of their new single "Mercury" to the Zane Lowe Show on BBC's Radio One in the UK today. The new song is currently streaming on Radio One's website and can be heard now - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/zanelowe
Speaking live on the show about the new song and the ongoing recording session for the band's third album, singer/guitarist Kele Okereke said, "We're in the middle of it. We're still writing and working on it, so it's quite hard to have an overview, really. We are making ...
Video Premiere: Bloc Party's 'Mercury'
Published 7/9/2008 by AceShowbiz.com at Aceshowbiz.com - Entertainment News
The Indie rockers have already premiered the music video for their latest single from their yet-to-be-titled new LP. Having yet confirming any details about their new album, Indie rock band Bloc Party already premiered the music video for their first single "Mercury". The clip was streamed on their official website at the same day as they perform their single for the first time on Radio 1 on July 7. The new clip had a very weird plot as it pictures humans in animal heads like monkey and bull. It seems that the story tells about some monkey scientists that are creating a new species (a man body with a bull head) who finally becomes a ...
