There was an interesting article in this Sunday's New York Times about Metallica, explaining their approach to their forthcoming album Death Magnetic. Producer Rick Rubin apparently told them that 1986's Master of Puppets was their best album and, as an exercise, to try and imagine that they were contractually obligated to write a follow-up in that same year.
