First Trailer for Sean Penn's 'Milk'
Published 9/4/2008 by William Goss at Cinematical
(If the version above doesn't work, here's the proper Quicktime link.)
To paraphrase an IM conversation I just had with a friend regarding the trailer for Gus van Sant's forthcoming biopic, Milk: he thought the trailer was "incredible", whereas I felt it painted openly gay elected official Harvey Milk in a bit too saintly a light, at least within those two-and-a-half minutes, much to his chagrin.
I'm not saying that the real-life Milk wasn't a key figure in the fight for gay rights; I'm not saying that he deserved to be assassinated by Dan ...
Got Milk? A great trailer, and better news about Hayao Miyazaki

It's hardly a bold prediction to say that Gus Van Sant's "Milk," the biopic about the late San Francisco pol Harvey Milk, is just going to be an Oscar magnet. First off, the academy loves biopics, and the story of the supervisor of San Francisco and gay rights activist, who was slain by a former city supervisor, is just naturally compelling. Second, it's been a little while since Sean Penn has won an Academy Award for acting (2004 in "Mystic River" to be exact), so you'll certainly be hearing his name, and I suspect Josh Brolin's portrayal of Dan White will garner a lot of attention too. But much more importantly, you ...

Got Milk!
Published 9/4/2008 by Michael K at Dlisted - Be Very Afraid
The trailer for "Milk" is here and it's pretty evident that Sean Penn will get nominated for one of those gold statue things. The film is based on the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man elected to political office. It was directed by Gus Van Zant. Hopefully, "Milk" will redeem Gus for that "Pyscho" fiasco. Casting Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates was just criminal.
"Milk" also stars James Franco, Josh Brolin, Diego Luna, Emile Hirsch and Victor ...

More Milk

If you've been living under a rock for the past couple of days, you may not be aware that there is now a trailer for Gus Van Sant's upcoming biopic of slain gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk. The clip, which I've now seen at least ten times, is really an extraordinary trailer -- elegantly put-together, edited crisply, with wonderful music and striking titles. Not to mention that the dialogue and performance clips are just right, and it seems to set the tone of the piece (epic but intimate, intensely emotional, vastly inspirational, etc.) up really well. I know it's not good of me to judge films before I've even seen them, ...
TRAILER PARK: Milk
Published 9/5/2008 by Phillip Johnston at MovieZeal
I’ve never been one for bio pictures. Walk the Line failed to excite me, Oliver Stone’s W. looks to be awfully facile (much like it’s subject), and I couldn’t muster up much excitement for Jamie Fox as Ray Charles no matter how good his performance may have been. These films walk a box office tightrope: they are usually seen rabidly by people who know and love the person being biographed (is that even a word?) and completely ignored by the rest of the world who doesn’t really care to spend money on film about them. When it comes to Harvey Milk, the first openly gay ...

First Look Gus Van Sant’s Milk
Published 9/6/2008 by John at Reel Suave
This surely another movie that is sure to get the Oscar season in full swing. There have been loads of people talking about this movie a sure tour de force by its principal cast that is Sean Penn, Emile Hirsh and James Franco. Milk details the life of Harvey Milk, the self described Mayor of Castro Street and the first openly gay politician to be elected to a public office. The other aspect of the man is that he was tragically assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone, by rival Dan White who famously used the Twinkle defense when he was eventually tried for the crime. So this is surely going to be the most talked about Oscar ...

Milk looks good. Really good. Milk looks like Sean Penn’s best performance since Mystic River. Imagine if a film like this got released during the summer. It would just get lost like Cinderella Man and A Mighty Heart. “Milk is a 2008 biopic about the later life and assassination of San Francisco city supervisor/gay rights [...] ...
Sean Penn sent a text to Madonna after his first same sex kiss
Published 9/30/2008 by Celebitchy at Cele|bitchy
Sean Penn stars with James Franco and Josh Brolin in Milk, a biopic about the first openly gay man elected to office in San Francisco. Harvey Milk served as the city supervisor in late 1970s San Francisco and campaigned for gay rights. Penn stars as the title character in the film and James Franco is his lover.
Penn’s co-star James Franco said in an interview with Out Magazine that the first person Penn told about his first experience kissing a man, which was supposedly with Franco on the set of the film, was his ex wife Madonna. He claims Penn sent Madonna a text message about the ...

The Academy Award for Best Motion Picture is considered one of, if not the most important of the Academy Awards, as it is the final result of the collaborative producing, directing, acting, and writing efforts put forth for a film. The Academy Award for Best Motion Picture is one of the Awards of Merit presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to artists working in the motion picture industry. That's the ever-reliable Wiki defining Best Picture. As usual, the best months for watching the most exciting, thought-provoking movies are during November and December. New To Theatres This Weekend: Australia, Transporter 3, Four Christmases
Published 4 days ago by Sean at Film Junk
Well today is Black Friday for our friends south of the border, marking the official start to the holiday season, and absolute hell for anyone working in retail. This year’s obligatory Christmas-themed romantic comedy is Four Christmases starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon, which hasn’t been getting particularly good reviews. Also out this weekend is the new Baz Luhrman epic Australia, and the latest Jason Statham action flick Transporter 3. In select theatres we have the Gus Van Sant movie Milk starring Sean Penn, which will hopefully expand in the coming weeks. ...
