Uh, Dude … Your Mic’s On

It’s always fun when the talking heads don’t realize they’re being recorded and let you know what they really think. Here are two conservative commentators on MSNBC talking about Sarah Palin — when they think nobody’s listening. Thanks Rebecca! This entry was posted on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 1:39 pm and is filed under Sarah Palin ...

Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan's Open Mike
Published 9/3/2008 at mediabistro.com: FishBowlLA
Opps. Conservative pundits Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan had their mikes on while they said what they actually think about VP nominee Sarah Palin. This clip takes place right after the two talked about strategy. Murphy remarked that Palin is "fresh, anti-politician." Then when they thought they were off the air: "It's over." "Is that the most qualified woman they could have turned to?" "They went for the political bullshit about narratives." We're cringing. New Career Opportunities ...

More Politics, I'm Afraid

A political miracle - Peggy Noonan (and Mike Murphy) say pretty much what I think about McCain's choice of Sarah Palin for veep: The link is everywhere, at least on the lefty blogs. I first saw it at If I Ran the Zoo, where in comments, Tom Hilton links to Daniel Nexon noting what this says about modern pundits. They know better, but keep putting it out.... hypocrisy, cynicism, shamelessness - the modern republican party.

Leaked Footage Shows GOP Analysts Bashing Palin
Published 9/3/2008 at mediabistro.com: TVNewser
Leaked footage from a commercial break during the NoonET hour of MSNBC showed up on YouTube this afternoon. After Chuck Todd tossed to a break with guests Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan on set, all three can be heard expressing surprise over the Gov. Sarah Palin VP pick with Murphy and Noonan dismissing the pick as "cynical," and "about narratives." So — how did the tape get leaked onto YouTube just hours after the conversation took place? New Career Opportunities Daily: The ...

William Bradley: Obama Counter-Programs The RNC, And Hurricanes Sarah And Gustav
Published 9/4/2008 by William Bradley at Huffington Post Entertainment Blog
Former McCain and Schwarzenegger chief strategist Mike Murphy and former Reagan chief speechwriter Peggy Noonan say what they really think about the Palin Pick. What a bizarre week in presidential politics for Barack Obama to mount a counter-programming effort. He has the Republican National Convention and Hurricanes Gustav and Sarah. And it's going pretty well for him. Not that he has all that much to do with it. Hurricane Gustav disrupted the flow of the Republican national convention. Hurricane Sarah distracted from the substance of the convention, ...

The Caucus: Top G.O.P. Pundits Fault Palin Selection
Published 9/4/2008 at NYT > Home Page
Updated ST. PAUL — Two prominent Republicans — one of them a close ally and former aide to Senator John McCain — were caught on a live mic on MSNBC bemoaning the selection of Gov. Sarah Palin and the controversy surrounding her. Mike Murphy, who worked on Senator McCain’s campaign in 2000 but declined to join this year’s, citing tensions with top campaign staff members, can be heard in near-anguish talking about the fallout from her candidacy. “I come out of the blue, swing-state governor world, Engler, Whitman, Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush” he said. But the McCain campaign just decided to run with Palin, he said, adding “it’s not going to ...

After Palin's tremendous pushback, will journalists keep challenging the candidate?
Published 9/4/2008 by Eric Deggans at The Feed
What may be most frustrating about watching TV coverage of this election is the thimble-level depth it offers. In the Democratic primaries, it was questions about flag pins and God's will. After John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate, it was questions of work/life balance that men rarely face. ...

Tell Me What You Really Think

September 4, 2008 11:18 Tell Me What You Really Think OK, I am already probably the last blogger on the planet to link to Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan's hot-mike embarrassment , but it's too good not to. They now have something in common with Jesse Jackson ! 1. Note to cable-news guests: Until they unclip that mike from you, assume that it is on . 2. More seriously, there are a million explanations people give for why new media are competing with the old media, but this illustrates a basic one: say whatever you want about blogs, people generally believe that bloggers write what they actually think . ...

Why don't some conservative columnists write what they really think about Sarah Palin?
Published 10/10/2008 by Eric Deggans at The Feed
As somebody who gets paid to put his opinions in print every day, I’ve always thought columnists have one overarching duty to their readers and the profession: Intellectual honesty. Our goal is to channel our convictions, values and perspectives into compelling arguments, respecting facts and contrary views. Even ...
