I kinda wish this were a joke, but ... the trailer for Oliver Stone's "W"
Published 7/29/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Reel Fanatic) at Reel Fanatic
Before I go any further, let me just state for the record that I used to like Oliver Stone quite a bit, and I want to again. Earnestly. But this trailer ... Wow ... I didn't expect Stone to make a movie that treats the W. presidency with any respect, but the hard-living Bush part (with the choice cut from Delaware's own George Thorogood .. now, really, how tough can you be when your band is actually called the Delaware Destroyers?) looks funny for a second until it just makes you cringe. It is kinda cool to see all the fairly A-list actors in their Bush bunch garb, and Thandie Newton indeed looks on the verge of tears just as ...
Hey Buddy, Take it Outside!

Rob from The Country Fair and the Circus here. Have you seen the trailer for W. yet? Yeah it does come off as an extended SNL skit with big name actors, but I admit it did make me smile. However, that's just an aside. What I really wanted to talk about is an interesting article (with accompanying slide-show) on Slate.com today about the evolution of the Hollywood fight. This is spurred by the fact that some critics called the fights in The Dark Knight rather incomprendable. Personally I didn't find them to be that problematic, but the shaky-cam crazy nature of modern fight scenes has never ...
W Movie Release Date Draws Fire From Obama & Bush Fans Alike
Published 7/30/2008 by Karina Longworth at SpoutBlog
I had MSNBC on for a while in the background while I was working yesterday, and they were giving what seemed like an inordinate amount of attention to the trailer, released over the weekend, for Oliver Stone’s W. Most of the talking heads were just mocking the trailer and Stone, but gossip reporter Courtney Hazlett had an interesting observation. Noting that Stone is pushing his crew through a (probably ill-advised) grueling seven month production and post-production schedule, Hazlett predicted that crowds might come out just to see a finished product ...

Apatocalypse Now: Five Movies to Get You Through the Coming Judd Apatow Drought

Over the past few years, we've been strictly conditioned to expect new Judd Apatow movies — like celebrity DUIs and Ryan Adams albums — to happen once every two or three weeks. But what if we told you there were no more Apatow-produced films being released for the ...
"W" Preview and Trailer
Published 8/31/2008 by Jane Boursaw at Film Gecko
W. is headed to screens Oct. 17, 2008. It’s Oliver Stone’s story about George W. Bush, taking us through his life, struggles and triumphs, marriage to Laura, development of his faith, and the critical days leading up to his decision to invade Iraq.
What do you think about this? I just keep thinking how weird it would be to have a movie made about you. I’m sure Stone will give us his version of the events, and they’ll probably be really dramatic and possibly untrue. I’d like someone to make a movie about Oliver Stone sometime. Can you tell I’m not really an Oliver Stone fan? ...

A Wonderful Playlist of "What a Wonderful World" Covers
Published 10/9/2008 by BuzzSugar at BuzzSugar -- Entertainment hourly.
Yesterday's news of Forest Whitaker's Louis Armstrong biopic immediately made me think of the last time I heard the song that will be the movie's title: "What a Wonderful World." My ears pricked up when I heard the song as covered by Joey Ramone in the recent Simon Pegg comedy How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. I wasn't thrilled with the movie as a whole, but I like a lot of the music in it — especially this track.
Nobody can do "What a Wonderful World" quite like Louie did, but that hasn't stopped a bajillion musicians from trying. Just doing a quick search on imeem brings up many varied ...
The 23rd Letter
Published 10/16/2008 at WOW Report
It was always Oliver Stone's intent to release W. before George W Bush left office, reports Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood. And, according to a source, three weeks before November 4 is the ideal time because the political consciousness of the country is at a peak. Finke notes that liberals worry the movie will make Bushies angry and help McCain at the polls, while conservatives are concerned the movie will remind people how ridiculous Bush is and help Obama's chances. Of course it will do both and each will cancel out the other. W. opens Friday.
CGG Must See: W.
Published 10/17/2008 by aanderson at Celebs Gone Good
Oliver Stone ’s new biopic on President George W. Bush has been criticized by the left for painting him as too sympathetic, and by the right for making him look like an idiot. But put the politics aside for a few hours. True, it is being released at a very pertinent time, just a hair over two weeks before the Presidential election ...
