A-Ha, Devo, Talking Heads: Wired picks ten songs with geek cred

Wired magazine s Geek Dad blog had an interesting rock list yesterday ten retro songs with geek cred. The notion of geek cred is dubious (weird haircuts, geeky bands, big suits, and synthesizers seem to be the signifiers of geekdom in the music world) but the list features some old geek stand-bys like Talking Heads, Devo, and A-Ha. However, there is a glaring omission on the list: Weird Al Yankovic. Any music list referencing geeks needs to include Yankovic, arguably the guy who made geeky mainstream in the late 80s. Alright, Oliver Stone, if you want to make your W trailer into an abbreviated Talking Heads video, that's fine, but at least make Josh Brolin do the appropriate dance moves for it. As it stands, he's just doing a lot of funny faces and spitting pretzel out of his mouth, which doesn't make for that entertaining of a movie. Still though: take that, Bush!
