The video for Weezer's "Pork And Beans" is now online, and it's basically a goof on the E-list stars of the Internet video age: Tay Zonday, Chris Crocker, K-Fed, Miss South Carolina, the Numa Numa Guy, and Dramatic Chipmunk all make appearances with the band, in what I guess is supposed to continue Weezer's "we are totally messing with all of you" shtick and double as some sort of metacommentary on "fame" in the current era. The funny thing about someone from Knoxville making it big, like Adam Bell of Weezer, is that everyone claims to know him and be his friend. That's probably true anywhere but it's a little more amplified in a smaller town. Apparently, Adam's graduating class in high school had roughly 35,000 students in it. Anywho, Weezer is back with their "Pork and Beans" video and if you're nerdy enough you'll catch all the memes. Lovin' it! Kudos to the synchronized Mentos/Diet Coke fountains!

Weezer's new music video features web stars like Chris Crocker, "Evolution of Dance" guy, Gary Brolsma from "Numa Numa," and Afroninja (who it turns out is a very good stuntman except for that ). And they actually do stuff! In most meme-collecting videos (like this one from the Barenaked Ladies), everyone just shows up; in Weezer's each web meme character is redeemed. The Diet Coke and Mentos guys get to rock out. Afroninja shows that despite that one famous screw-up, he really can kick ass. Chris Crocker is comforted. According to Last Week's Poll This issue came up the other day, when I reviewed Weezer's awful new album, the Red Album. I was mentioning how Weezer is one of those groups that's managed to coast for years and years on the back of one really good album, i.e. the Blue Album. Everyone who has ever played a song on the guitar has probably played a Weezer song at some point in their life.
