At their sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A. last night, Radiohead pulled out a unique cover. No, it wasn t a live rendition of their Portishead cover -- instead, it was a cover of Tell Me Why by Neil Young (off his 1970 album After the Gold Rush ). The band s rhythm section sat this one out as Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke played the acoustic version by themselves in a low-key performance. [ Gigwise ]

Radiohead Cover Neil Young thumbnail icon: Radiohead Cover Neil Young About a week ago Thom and Johnny sidled up to the front of the Whiteriver Ampitheathre stage in Auburn, WA for just your typical "Faust Arp" duet. Except Thom forgot the words. After having an embarrassed laugh, he took the moment to shift into After The Gold Rush cut "Tell Me Why." Only they couldn't quite make it through that one, either. Eventually they got through the the originally intentioned In Rainbows lullaby and proceeded to blow everyone's minds through the rest of the concert probably, but sometime between then and last night, Yorke and Greenwood decided to right their ...

Is there a sweeter sound in the universe than Radiohead covering Neil Young?
Published 8/29/2008 by Simon Vozick-Levinson at Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch
Is there a sweeter sound in the universe than Radiohead covering Neil Young? I humbly submit that there is not. Exhibit A: This clip of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood playing Neil Young's "Tell Me Why" at LA's Hollywood Bowl on Monday (big h/t ), which I have been unable to prevent myself from playing several times each morning, noon, and night this week, and which I am embedding below in order to force you to join me. (There's also a cleaner MP3 of this performance out there , if you can't stomach the shaky camerawork and random crowd yelpers.) See? I'm obviously biased , but I just can't get enough of Yorke's falsetto on Young's melody. ...

Video: Radiohead: "Tell Me Why" (Neil Young cover; live at the Hollywood Bowl)
Last night at L.A.'s legendary Hollywood Bowl, Radiohead performed an acoustic cover of Neil Young's "Tell Me Why", the heartstring-tugging opener from After the Gold Rush. A couple of poor quality YouTubes were posted around a bit earlier today, but Gorilla vs. Bear has the winner here, a nice clear clip on Vimeo that puts you right in front of the band.
