RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Sings To Fans At State Capitol In St. Paul; Video Available
Published 9/3/2008 at BLABBERMOUTH.NET Latest News
StarTribune.com reports that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE showed up in St. Paul, Minnesota Tuesday (September 2) at the Ripple Effect concert on the State Capitol lawn. However, the band arrived close to the 7 p.m. curfew time and without a proper permit, so police would not let it perform. As the band members pow-wowed with officials and event organizers backstage, the crowd started singing "The Star Spangled Banner" and chanting, "Free speech," and, "[Expletive] you I won't do what you tell me" (one of the band's famous lyrics). Rage Against The Machine @ The Ripple Effect
Published 9/3/2008 by Hallway Jay at illRoots
K-Salaam was DJing this official event called “The Ripple Effect”, a protest of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul earlier today. After their first try to get on stage, Rage then went on to play a 10 minute a capella performance of “Bulls on Parade” and “Killing in the Name of”. This is crazy and according to K, tonight is going to be even crazier. Shout out to AboveTheFold for catching some dope footage. Oh and yes, DOOMED is coming and I can’t wait.

Rage Against the Machine Go A Capella at Protest
Published 9/3/2008 by Jessica Robertson at Spinner.com
So help the Man who comes between Zach de la Rocha and his bullhorn. The Rage Against the Machine frontman and his bandmates were set to perform at the Ripple Effect concert at St. Paul, Minnesota's Capitol building as part of a peaceful protest during the Republican National Convention, but the band showed up too close to the 7pm curfew and without a permit. Police refused to allow Rage to play, inciting, well, rage and protests among the crowd. The band then walked into the audience, yelling rally cries and performing a cappella versions of 'Bulls on Parade' and 'Testify.' De la Rocha and Co. would later lead the 2,000-strong crowd to the Xcel ...

Rage Against the Machine RNC - 09.02.08
The "beyond partisan" free concert on the lawn of Minnesota's state capitol today went from mellow and laid back to a political movement. The buzz around the crowd blew up when word got out that Rage Against the Machine would be making a surprise appearance on stage .
Things got heated in the crowd when the Minnesota State Police would not let the band play despite the chanting of the thousands of people.
The music had to stop by 7:00 p.m. and when Rage figured they wouldn't be allowed on stage they took to the ...
'Why are these cops so afraid of us?'
Published 9/3/2008 by Tim Jonze at Music: Music blog | guardian.co.uk
After police banned them from playing a political rally in Minnesota yesterday, Rage Against the Machine whipped out the loudspeaker and went a cappella. The band's original plan was to play an impromptu gig at left-wing rally Ripple Effect. Sadly, the police had other ideas, leaving Zack de la Rocha to address some angry fans. "Rage Against the Machine is a band that has never, ever advocated violence," he, er, rages. "We've always advocated a direct opposition to unjust wars like the one started by John McCain and the Republicans and Bush and all of them." He continues: "Why the fuck are these cops so afraid of us? Are they afraid of us?" The crowd ...
Rage Against The Machine Take On The Cops, Electricity [Political Song For Everyone To Sing]
Published 9/3/2008 by Maura Johnston at Idolator
Yesterday, a free Rage Against the Machine show outside of the Minnesota state capitol in St. Paul that was scheduled to coincide with the Republican National Convention—which is taking place in that city—was shut down by local police, who claimed that the band couldn't play because it was going to take the stage too close to the show's 7 p.m. curfew, and besides, Zack de la Rocha and his pals didn't have the proper permits to perform, even though the rest of the festival apparently went on without incident. This year's RNC, like the ones in 2000 and 2004, has seen its share of protests and heavy-handedness on the part of law ...

Rage Have Their Power Cut, Use Their Mouths Instead At The RNC thumbnail icon: Rage Have Their Power Cut, Use Their Mouths Instead At The RNC Today we finally get to know what a crowd of people doing a cappella versions of Zack de la Rocha's protest songs sounds like. It goes something like "bow-bow-bow-bow-chikka-chikka-chikka." RATM turned up in Minneapolis to perform a short set at 6:30PM yesterday as part of the Ripple Effect music festival, set on the lawn of the Minnesota State Capitol building. As the Star Tribune reports, though, "the band arrived close to the 7 p.m. curfew time and without a proper permit, so police would not let it ...
Rage Against the Machine forced to perform acapulco at RNC
Published 9/3/2008 by Bol at ByronCrawford.com
I suppose Rage Against the Machine should have known they weren't gonna be able to perform for very long at this year's RNC.
I mean, if Amy Goodman's old, palsied ass was getting roughed up by 5-0 as if she was a young black dude, supposedly because they figured she might incite a riot (clearly, they've never tried to listen to Democracy Now!), this obviously wasn't gonna turn out very well for them.
I've been to two Rage Against the Machine shows in the past couple of years. At Lollapalooza, a few weeks ago, they famously had to keep stopping the show so people wouldn't crowd the stage as much. And I'm pretty sure ...

Photos by Jon Behm Those concerned that Rage Against the Machine + Republican National Convention = nothing but trouble can rest a little easier, at least for now. While the band won't take the stage for its big proper gig at the Target Center in Minneapolis until tonight, a daytime performance yesterday (September 2) on the lawn of the Minnesota State Capitol went down relatively chaos-free-- mainly because it barely went down at all. Rage were meant to give a "surprise performance" at the Ripple Effect Day ...
Rage Against the Machine Leads Protest After Concert Shut Down
Published 9/3/2008 by DJ Sidekick at Backseat Cuddler
[image] So what if Jon Voight was the only certifiable celebrity to show his face at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota this week. He may be the only one to have accredited access inside the event, but not too far outside yesterday afternoon were one of modern rock’s most political bands and their legion of supporters. Zach de la Rocha and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine (in addition to Anti-Flag ) were slated to perform a free show at the Minnesota State Capital in protest ...
