Andrew James : … or TDK. I have a feeling I’m going to like that one. rot : It will be interesting to see when all the dust has settled what is considered that best summer blockbuster film of 2008... Kurt Halfyard : Probably too much collateral damage in Hancock and way too much fish-eye lens in Mystery Men. Kurt Halfyard : Hancock and Mystery men do both have a lot in common. I think in the end I like both films about the same. Each... Matt Gamble : Clearly he hasn’t seen Mystery Men. ;) Kurt Halfyard : @Matt. As we first told you back in June, a trailer for 20th Century Fox’s ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly is indeed attached to Hancock this weekend…..It’s the story of the arrival of an alien, Klaatu, which causes a worldwide panic. I’m actually excited for this “reimagination”. The sci-fi thriller opens December 12th. Is “whoa” too much??
"The Day The Earth Stood Still" Teaser Trailer
Published 7/3/2008 by TonyD (noreply@blogger.com) at FilmArcade.net
[image] Source: FilmWeb.pl We made mention that the teaser trailer for “The Day the Earth Stood Still” will be appearing before “Hancock.” It hasn’t been “officially” released on the internet, but it is appearing now off of YouTube and FilmWeb. Let me be the first to say that we might actually like the movie, but it will take a lot more than a teaser trailer to make us figure that out. “The Day the Earth Stood Still” comes out December 12, 2008. (If the trailer goes dead sometime through the day, can one contact me back?)
The Day the Earth Stood Still -- the trailer!

A few months ago, I got to visit the set of the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still, which was being shot here in the Vancouver area. Not for the first time, I marvelled at how it took hours and hours to produce maybe a few seconds of actual movie. A few of those seconds -- showing military vehicles moving into position, in what I think is supposed to be Central Park -- appear in the trailer below, which is reportedly playing before Hancock in some theatres right now, at least on the American side of the border: Click here if the video file above ...

The Day The Earth Stood Still Trailer Starring Keanu Reeves
Published 7/3/2008 by Sean at Film Junk
The idea of remaking The Day The Earth Stood Still is not one that I am entirely comfortable with. While the original is now over 50 years old and may seem long overdue for a modern upgrade, it still stands as an absolute classic and a great example of what science-fiction films can and should be. And yet, like it or not, the teaser trailer for the 2008 remake has arrived online, and I am now finding myself forced to admit that… you know what? I actually didn’t mind it. Granted, it is only a teaser. Keanu Reeves stars as Klaatu, and if ever there was a role that perfectly suited his robotic acting, this is it. The cast also includes Jennifer Connelly, ...

The Day the Earth Stood Still Teaser Trailer… Dude [First Look]
Published 7/3/2008 by Neil Miller at Film School Rejects
Why do I still get the feeling that Keanu Reeves is going to make a lackluster Klaatu in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still? For some reason I just don’t buy him as an alien lifeform sent to warn us of Earth’s impending destruction — there is something just too nonchalant about him. Either way, he is in it, and the first trailer, which is currently playing in front of Hancock, has hit the web via Filmweb.pl. Check it out below.

Teaser for Keanu’s “The Day the Earth Stood Still” arrives

Back in April, Jason told us about the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves, and no one was really surprised at yet ANOTHER old movie being modernized.
The poster came a month later and it looked OKAY, but nothing spectacular.
We finally have the first trailer for the movie, which also features Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates, John Cleese, and Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s son).
I hate remakes, but this trailer actually seems kind of interesting. What do you guys think?

The rule of thumb in this film blogging world of ours is, what goes up must come down. In other words, any trailer that finds itself premiering on YouTube can only find itself taken down from YouTube. So, for now, let us offer you what appears to be the teaser for this winter's big-budget remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, in which an alien visitor (Keanu Reeves) gives us Earth denizens a ...

“The Day The Earth Stood Still” Trailer Lands
Published 7/3/2008 by Rick at TunaFlix
Is there anything more dramatic than Keanu Reeves‘ “dramatic” pauses? Just look at the way he milks so much tension out of answering “Yes” to “Are you currently in a seated position?”. The guy’s a genius! If Keanu ever starts an acting school, I’ll be the first to sign up. Then it’s Hollywood, here I come!
P.S. Click above to watch the trailer. I don’t know about you, but I still vastly prefer this version.

Movie Preview: The Day the Earth Stood Still

The modern remake of the 1951 sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still attempts to update the older version, shifting its themes from Cold War political tension and the threat of human violence to the imminence of environmental retaliation from an abused Earth. Keanu Reeves, who plays the protagonist in this new version, explains:
The first one was borne out of the cold war and nuclear détente. Klaatu came and was saying cease and desist with your violence. If you can’t do it yourselves we’re going to do it. That was the film of that day. The version I was just working on, instead of being man against ...

I’ve been eagerly waiting for my first glimpse at The Day The Earth Stood Still ever since I learnt that the film was being remade, and Keanu Reeves was going to be starring. The Earth Stands Still Again

1951's "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is one of my all-time favorite films. After seeing Spielberg's 2005 "War of the Worlds," I actually began writing my own treatment for a remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still," but before I could even finish an outline - news spread that Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") was directing an adaptation starring Keanu Reeves as the iconic Klaatu. Then I read a draft of the script by David Scarpa and was disgusted - Gort was replaced by some spider-like robot and there seemed to be little resemblance to the classic film. Well, this trailer has reaffirmed my ...

Keanu’s New Flick Isn’t Just ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ With Aliens

I’ll admit that when I first heard news of an updated ‘eco-version’ of the classic sci-fi flick The Day The Earth Stood Still, I had my doubts. Perhaps my taste in acting is unrefined, but I for one generally do not have many problems with Keanu Reeves in lead roles. I was was a little worried, however, (as were many) that this new take on the story of treehugging alien invaders might be a little much. Then I saw the trailer — which looks promising, if not a tad-bit “Michael Bay-ish”. According to an interview with MTV, director Scott Derrickson says the film ...

io9 showcases artwork by Lorin Wood who worked on the upcoming remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still as a previz animation artist and he drew this sort of Cylon take on the robot Gort, in his spare time only for fun. Apparently, the film makers instead simply updated the classic look of Gort from the 1951 film, without doing a radical reinvention. Still, it's pretty frakking cool and would have made Gort at least a cousin to the Cylons. The Day The Earth Stood Still comes out December 12 and the cast includes Aaron Douglas as Sgt. Winter and Lorena Gale (Elosha) as Scientist #2. (Mad Men's Jon Hamm ...
