M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening Slammed and New 5-Minute Video Clip
Published 5/16/2008 by orfilms@gmail.com (slashfilm.com) at /Film
Our friends at Collider have the first reader review of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening and it’s not good at all:
“The Happening is a terrible, terrible movie. I mean, it’s bad on an epic scale. It’s so bad that I can’t possibly tell you how bad it is without understating the point or making it sound like I’m picking on the film. But let me stress: this is not pent-up Shyamalan aggression or a desire to see him fail. This is bad in a jaw-dropping “they can’t really be serious, can they?” kind of way. The closest comparison I can draw is to Neil ...

Wow...Wahlberg Really Does Suck In THE HAPPENING!! Extended Clip Now Online!!
Published 5/16/2008 by Merrick at Ain't It Cool News - The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.
Merrick here... A few days back, a particularly scathing review of M. Night Shyamalan’s THE HAPPENING hit the Nets. You can find that review HERE . In the piece, the reviewer states that THE HAPPENING offers the worst performance by Mark Wahlberg ever . Still, I couldn't help but think the writer may've been over exaggerating a bit. Then I saw an extended clip from the film, posted by Yahoo movies. And...yowza. Said clip also features an introduction to/rationalization for the film by M. Night. SEE IT HERE!!! Between this and MAX PAYNE, 2008 doesn't look to be a particularly good year for Wahlberg. Ah, well, there's always hope for a Funky Bunch ...
'The Happening' Gets an Extended Clip and Negative Buzz
Published 5/16/2008 by Erik Davis at Cinematical
Filed under: Drama, Mystery & Suspense, Fandom, Movie Marketing, Trailers and Clips An extended clip from M. Night Shyamalan's new film The Happening is now online (watch it above or in higher quality over on Yahoo), with an introduction from M. Night himself saying how he was inspired by films like The Godfather and The Exorcist. What we get are snippets of scenes we've seen previously from the trailers, as well as the extended version of the train scene when Mark Wahlberg walks up to those conductors and says, "With whom?" (I love that part and I ...

M. Night Shyamalan, As With Everything Shitty He Does, Wears His Choker Unapologetically
Published 5/16/2008 at Videogum
The early review on of M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening on collider made the blog rounds yesterday in no small part due to this comparison: The closest comparison I can draw is to Neil LaBute's Wicker Man and, like that film, the only consolation I can offer potential theater-goers is that you might want to see it just to be in on the ground floor when the film gets its ass handed back to it. Whoa. M. Night Shyamalan, please log on to zing.com, someone has sent you an e-Zing. So, today, as if in response, Yahoo has posted a five minute clip from the film with an intro by the director. ...
Is M. Night Shyamalan Our Generation's Ed Wood? [Turkeys In The Making]
Published 5/16/2008 by Seth at Defamer
It's been two surprisingly brisk years since M. Night Shyamalan unleashed his last utterly unwatchable labor of love upon us. That would be Lady in the Water—a project Disney would successfully argue was legitimate grounds for divorce, and that would ultimately go on to teach Warner Bros. a valuable lesson about never making movies ...
Open Forum Friday: Can M. Night Shyamalan’s Career Survive The Happening?
Published 5/16/2008 by Sean at Film Junk
openforumhappening.jpg The release of M. Night Shyamalan’s latest suspense-thriller The Happening is about a month away now, and while I’m really looking forward to it, I know there are a lot of people who really aren’t. It’s to the point where every time a trailer for The Happening plays in a theatre, people around me start giggling and making fun of it. Now I will admit that the trailer itself is pretty vague, and gives you very little to go on (which I’m sure was intentional), but after making a number of movies with a very similar, recognizable style, I think M. Night Shyamalan is running the risk of becoming a parody of himself. A new clip ...

Has Shyamalan Failed To Create A Scary Enough Eco-Villain?
Published 5/17/2008 by michael at ecorazzi.com :: the latest in green gossip
Reviews for M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, The Happening, have been less than praise-worthy, with many complaints “rooted” in the choice of the antagonist for the plot. If you’ve followed our coverage of the movie for any length of time, you obviously know what I’m talking about — but for the sake of those who wish to remain surprised, I won’t reveal here what’s being slammed.

One review that hit the net a couple days ago had this to say:
“It’s plants that are responsible. They’ve decided to wipe ...
Ego Consumes M. Night Shyamalan in Latest, Not-So-Twist Ending [Turkeys In The Making]
Published 6/2/2008 by STV at Defamer
Antipathy toward Manoj Night Shyamalan was easy after Lady in the Water, but the slip-sliding trajectory of his upcoming eco-thriller The Happening has our hearts suddenly and surprisingly enlarged with pity. After a while, there's only so much you can hold against a guy whose actors' line readings are scarier than his plot, who unironically claims he's got something on The Exorcist and whose latest double-shot of bad buzz suggests Shyamalan's days as Genius Autocrat Brat are spiraling to a close. For starters, the flagging Manoj Mystique™ gets the point-counterpoint treatment in today's NY Times: ...
