I'll admit at first I was supportive of the writers in only a lukewarm sort of way without knowing what the contract issues were. Maybe because I think being a screen or tv writer would be the best job ever, so these guys already have my dream job. But I've watched the videos, read the blogs, and repented of my apathy and I sincerely hope the writers get what they deserve, which is certainly much more than the ridiculous $.04 per DVD sale and $0 off internet/new media.

I wonder if we'll be so supportive when those costs eventually trickle down to the consumers?

Either way, this strike is becoming so disruptive. What will people do when their favourite shows close down? I'm not looking forward to Heroes being shut down early.

Interestingly enough...the writers have alot of power....take it in their own hands, forgo distribution and push their original content online directly.  Then they can decide if that is more profitable/fulfilling or if the power of distribution is worth what they feel they aren't getting paid for.

Writers Strike: Day 3
Published 11/7/2007 by Joel Brown at TV with MeeVee
Lots of tidbits but still no progress. It's nice for the writers to see all the stars joining their picket lines and bringing  them food, I'm sure, but what we the viewers need is a resumption of talks. At this point, there are no new negotiations scheduled. Will Jimmy Carter get involved? Bill Clinton? Dr. Phil? Somebody do something. because otherwise we're going to get to see those unaired episodes of "Viva Laughlin" after all, and nobody wants that. THE LATEST: Hopes for a quick solution are "fading fast" and the ...

Writers From 'The Office' Demand Payment For Their Emmy-Winning Promotional Work [Crippling Dunder Mifflin]
Published 11/7/2007 by Mark at Defamer
United Hollywood's videologue from Day Two of the strike features the picketing staff of The Office, who've walked off the job to shut down their show in hopes of raising the compensation they receive from the internet reuse of the commercial-laden "promotions" they produce on a weekly basis for NBC above the zero-dollar mark. But perhaps their most damning tale of network mendacity concerns their refusal to foot the bill for the Daytime Emmys two of the writers won for their webisodes, for which they did not even receive the generous eleven-cents-per ...

‘The Office’ on YouTube
Published 11/7/2007 at Trial and Error
Watch this video, but don’t click on the ads! Because, well, the writers won’t get paid and that’s the point. The Writers Guild of America posted this clip on YouTube: From the picket lines in Los Angeles, “The Office” showrunner Greg Daniels talks about why he and some of the actor-writers on the show are striking. It’s pretty wild to see the actors as themselves doing “real people” stuff like picketing, but it also makes a strong point on the strike.

What do writers do? They write. The ones that work in Hollywood are not writing scripts for TV shows or films, of course, since the WGA has been on strike since Monday.
