I found out early I wasn't headed for a life of larceny when, during my sole bout of childhood theft - boosting Panini football stickers from a Hull newsagents - I broke rule No 1 and confessed my sins (my mum marched me back down to the shop). When it came down to it, I didn't have the light-fingered pride of the best on-screen thieves, the jeu d'esprit that also elevates swashbucklers, motorcycle stunt-riders and, well, most of the best action heroes.
