Review Of Jay-Z’z Glastonbury Performance
Published 6/29/2008 by RealTalkNY at RealTalkNY
Just finished watching the Jay-z performance, well about an hour ago. Been looking forward to his performance the whole day and he killed it! There were just over 300,000 people in the field so I really couldn’t get any video but I managed to get the billi freestyle but the sound makes it not worth listening to. He came out with a guitar mocking oasis because of their comments about him performing. This was my second time going to Glastonbury and from all the performances there have been this has to be in the top 3 of all time. For a hip-hop artist to come out to a white dominated event and rock/indie dominated ...

In April, Gallagher slammed the booking of Jay-Z to headline to festival as “wrong”, declaring: “I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. Jay-Z To Oasis: "Are Your Songs 'Appropriate' Glastonbury Material? Just Checking" [Videodrone]
Published 6/29/2008 by Maura Johnston at Idolator
After months of buildup, Jay-Z played his much-discussed headlining set at the Glastonbury Festival last night, and he opened it with a special dedication to Oasis' Noel Gallagher, who was quoted in the buildup to the festival as saying that Jay was an inappropriate addition to the Glasto bill because it was "built on a tradition of guitar music." Jay strolled out with a guitar, strumming and warbling along, last-call-on-a-long-night-style, to "Wonderwall" before breaking into "99 Problems." I think this is a way to tell Gallagher "your move," although I shudder to think what an Oasis cover of "Big Pimpin'" might sound ...

A few months back, Noel Gallagher claimed it was "wrong" to feature hip-hop at the fest. Jay-Z responded by defending the legitimacy of his art form. The Sun pointed out that Oasis are UK festival royalty and Jay-Z is a former New York drug dealer. Wha? Pre-show, Jay spoke to Radio 1 , saying, "If Noel Gallagher saw me perform ... he wouldn't say that." Then, the moment of truth. Jay strapped on a guitar and mockingly ...
