YouTube Direct video link The controversial George W. Bush biopic from Oliver Stone is here, with Josh Brolin as W. Is now the right time for 'W.'?
Published 10/9/2008 by Michael Slezak at Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch
Is now the right time for 'W.'? We're only 27 days away from electing a new president, and eight away from the release of Oliver Stone's W. And while on paper, I understand Lionsgate's reasoning for choosing an October 17 release date -- after all, the whole country is experiencing a case of presidential fever; why not capitalize on all the free publicity for a film about our current Commander in Chief? -- if I'm being honest, I'd rather be subjected to a Beverly Hills Chihuahua - Lakeview Terrace - Nights in Rodanthe triple-header (shudder) than shell out $12 to see W. Seriously, the current race for the White House between ...

Dubya, Dubya, Toil And Trouble
Published 10/12/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Paul Matwychuk) at The Moviegoer
When Oliver Stone announced his plan to make a biopic about George W. Bush, no one knew what to expect. Would it be a comedy, full of cheap jabs at Bush’s supposed intellectual shortcomings and his malaprop-filled responses to reporters’ questions? Would it be a savage indictment of Bush’s disastrous presidency — the war in Iraq, Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, Hurricane Katrina, yellowcake, Valerie Plame, on and on and on? Would it focus on Dubya’s unlikely marriage to Laura Bush and turn into a cockeyed love story? Or would it be one of Oliver Stone’s trademark everything-but-the-kitchen-sink pop-culture phantasmagorias, like ...

Movie Marketing Madness: W.
Published 10/15/2008 by Chris at Movie Marketing Madness
Well if you were going to release a biting satire of the current sitting President when would you do it? If you look back at the last few years of Oliver Stone’s career you’d be hard pressed to figure out just what he’s got in mind. Since 1994’s Natural Born Killers (a movie I despise with a fiery, fiery passion - it’s the very definition of a convoluted mess) Stone has alternated between overtly commercial epics like Alexander and Any Given Sunday, seemingly liberal tracts like Commandante and the “HOORAH!” weeper World Trade Center. Somewhere in there the ...

'W.' and the Bush Legacy
Published 10/19/2008 by Landon (talkalotsaynothing@gmail.com) at talking a lot without ever really saying anything.
I was understandably skeptical when I first heard of Oliver Stone’s plans to make a George W. Bush biopic while the man was still in office, at first relieved that Stone had seemingly returned to making incisive movies about controversial political figures after the huge missteps that were World Trade Center (2006) and Alexander (2004), but doubtful that the notoriously left-leaning filmmaker would be able to say anything new and insightful that hasn’t been said elsewhere (however, I should say that I never feel that it’s “too soon” to make a movie about any given subject, and while this may ...
